The African National Congress (ANC) has retained its control on the Buffalo City Metropolitan district in the Eastern Cape, the home to East London, Bhisho, King William’s Town, Mdantsane, and Zwelitsha.
According to the IEC Municipal Election Results Dashboard, 100 percent of the votes in the metro have been finalized:
351 of 351 Voting Districts completed
50 of 50 Wards completed
1 of 1 Municipality completed
100 of 100 Seats allocated
The ANC won 58,7 percent of the vote in Buffalo City in the 2016 Local Government Elections, which earned it an outright majority on the council with 60 seats.
In 2021, the party did marginally better – 59,43% – and picked up an additional seat. The DA was quite a way behind in second place with 19,52 percent of the vote and 20 seats.
