The DA’s candidate Geordin Hill-Lewis, 34, has emerged as the youngest ever mayor-elect in Cape Town. Geordin is the only child of a single mother who’s a nurse.

Geordin was born in the western cape’s coastal town of Pletternberg Bay which is 600km from Cape Town. He was raised by a single mother who was a nurse. He grew up in the middle-class suburb of Edgemead in the North of the city where he had schooled before his university education at the University of Cape Town where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, honors in politics, philosophy, and economics. Geordin further went to Europe for a master’s degree in economic policy from the University of London.
Geordin’s Political Career
Geordin Hill-Lewis became a member of the Democratic Alliance since his days in senior High school where he also established a UCT branch of the Democratic Alliance Students Organisation (DASO). He had worked on former DA leader Helen Zille’s successful premier campaign before serving as a researcher for the DA in parliament.
Geordin became the youngest MP to be elected to parliament at 24 back in 2011. He was also the chief of staff to Helen Zille when she was the leader of the DA and Premier of the Western Cape.
The statesman has said the DA’s goal is to make sure that residents don’t regret voting for the party. “When I launched my campaign to be elected as Cape Town’s next mayor, over two months ago, I announced right up front that I am committed to ending load shedding in Cape Town over time,” he said.
