The President declared a National State of Disaster as a result of the Covid-19 global pandemic. In this regard he introduced a special Covid 19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) of R350 per month for 6 months to be paid to individuals who are currently unemployed, do not receive any form of income, social grant or UIF payment etc.
More important information:
1.The grant is not being extended from the last period-this means that everyone will be expected to reconfirm their details. The application system for clients to do so will be open from 01 August 2021.No applicants or reactivations will be accepted before this date.
2.No payments for May, June, and July will be made-the original grant ended on 30 April. This is a new activation of the grant-not tension of the previous grant.
3.When clients do reconfirm their details, the process will be that they confirm through declaration and consent that their conditions are the same; and that they confirm the payment channel they wish to use to receive the grant. Those who want to change their current payment channel will be able to do so as they reactivate the grant. Clients are advised to indicate a bank account through which they can access their grant, as this is the quickest way to receive the funds.
4.New applicants who did not receive the grant before can the apply-the system will be open for new applicants as well.
Applications and reactivations will be accepted through WhatsApp and the website only – no emailed or telephonic applications will be accepted, and the USSD channel is no longer operational for applications.
5.Once the applications are processed, the outcome will be available on the website. Any client whose application is rejected has the right to request the decision to be reconsidered. This must be done within 15 days of receiving the outcome. Late requests for reconsideration will not be accepted.
